brand design : west seattle performing arts

march 2016 - may 2016
West Seattle Performing Arts is an emerging performing arts studio in West Seattle, run by owner Christine Juarez. The studio came to several designers looking for a comprehensive brand identity, including a quick build-up of the website and a concept for the environmental design and building aesthetics. I was among the group of designers recruited to conceptualize this identity, and each designer was tasked with coming up with their own individual concept of the brand identity.
The result was my individualized brand concept, which I built from the client recommendation of a "New York meets young Seattle" aesthetic. I chose bold, daring typefaces with bright colors, matched to dark contrasted photos and grey type throughout.
This project spanned over about seven weeks. The experience with WSPA taught me more about how to work with environmental design, as I took trips to the client's building to assess the potential space and take measurements. It also taught me about how to successfully work with a brand that is not yet existing, giving me full creative freedom over the identity of the brand (as opposed to adapting a pre-existing brand strategy).
I enjoyed working with West Seattle Performing Arts as a client, and I consider the brand project to be largely successful as it is being considered as a potential identity for the company to take on permanently.
