EARNIN - ACCOUNT REGISTRATION ON THE WEB | STRATEGY, RESEARCH & PRODUCT DESIGN
MARCH 2021 - JUNE 2021
The Earnin growth team wanted to create a way for our users to sign up for an Earnin account on our web. This was primary to optimize growth spend by directing growth ad spend towards web-based campaigns versus app campaigns, but also provided a way to ease friction in-app by moving a portion of the signup flow into web instead.
I worked on the competitive analysis, strategy, user research and design of this project.
COMPETITIVE STUDIES & WIREFRAMES
I studied other competitor fintech apps that had web registration funnels and outlined step order, number of steps on the web, UI placement, and how seamlessly the signup flowed into their in-app experience. I then compared our current onboarding flow for Earnin to the steps in competitor flows, and outlined recommended steps for what we should move to web, and what we should keep in-app. This was a lengthy process that involved a lot of back-and-forth with Earnin’s backend eng team to understand what was possible to build.

Designing an MVP
CONDUCTING USER RESEARCH ON THE MVP
I conducted a UserTesting.com study of live participants walking through the MVP product and narrating what they saw, then answering questions at the end about their experience. This test helped me further understand what could be improved for the next iteration of the site, and also helped me catch any bugs we didn’t find in internal testing.
